Philip Larkin Memorial in Poet's Corner - Westminster Abbey

Lyn Lockwood from the McAuley English Department was invited to attend the unveiling of the new plaque commemorating the poet Philip Larkin at Westminster Abbey, as part of her voluntary role as Education Officer for the Philip Larkin Society. The event was attended by many famous writers such as Alan Bennett and Melvyn Bragg and was a wonderful occasion. The Philip Larkin Society has contributed to A Level English Literature at McAuley and the English department hopes to continue this link between the school and the society.

Visiting Writer - Nik Perring

Nik is a writer based in Sheffield who is passionate about encouraging people of all ages to get writing. He spent the afternoon with students from Year Ten, Eleven, Twelve and Thirteen sharing his tips for getting started and using your imagination. As creative writing is a major part of the English syllabus at Key Stages 3 and 4 as well as A Level, we hope to be able to take part in more events like this see Nik back at the school later in the year.
