Summer Finale Concert 2017

A massive Thank You and Well Done to the fantastic orchestra of 65 players who produced such an impressive orchestral course finale concert on Sunday 16th July. All the music performed was of an extremely high standard and received a rousing reception from the capacity audience. Particular thanks go to our Y13 leavers for their massive contribution both to the concert and to Music during their time at the school. We would like to wish them all the best for the future. We were also delighted to welcome back a significant number of past students from the last 4 years and thank them for their valuable input. A copy of the concert programme and video recordings from the concert are available to view via the links.

DofE Award 2017

A HUGE congratulations needs to go out to 72 determined year 9 and 10 pupils who have undertaken to complete their Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award.

Over the past academic year they have dedicated their time to work towards completing all 4 sections of the award.

Pupils have been working hard at improving their musical, drama and dance skills. They have been improving their cooking skills along with dog training and pet care abilities.

Pupils have been working hard within team and individual physical challenges, to include swimming, running, racket sports, netball and martial arts.

Pupils have been supporting a whole variety of charities and communities. Supporting younger children within various music, sports, church and dance groups across Doncaster and beyond. Caring for our environment with regular litter picks within different communities.

This began with a training weekend earlier in the year – where it is safe to say many learnt from their mistakes and were able to move onto the practice expedition with a greater awareness of how to look after themselves away from all the comforts of home.

The practice expedition fell on a weekend with some of the worst rain I think I have ever seen – but the candidates remained determined and upbeat throughout. They were a credit to themselves, their parents and the school.

The qualifying expedition they did not let themselves down either. Over the two days, I saw some of the best team work and support of peers that I have ever seen. It really was an example of McAuley at its best.

Y5 Taster Day Visit From St Joseph’s, Retford, – Wednesday 12 July 2017

It was a privilege to host Y5 pupils from St Joseph's, Retford, for their Taster Day at McAuley. The day started with a welcome assembly about Noah's Ark from our Chaplain, Polly, who helped us understand what the bible teaches us about taking on new challenges. Y5 were then treated to three inspirational taster lessons. They did a practical lesson in making and measuring liquids of different acidity and alkalinity in Chemistry. "I can't believe I went into a real Science Laboratory!". In Geography they learnt about how we could help solve world famine by eating insects and they made up their own appetizing insect menu, "Eeuyukkkk!" and they built and launched rockets in the Technology Workshop, "My rocket went into next door's field!". To end the day, Y5 were treated to performances by the full McAuley Senior Orchestra (with alumni) in the Theatre. The finale, a rendition of 'Disco Lives' had St Joseph's - and their teachers – dancing in the aisles and they impressed with their YMCA moves!! Pictures and videos from the day are available through the links below! One of the children said that their day was, "... even better than the chocolate crunch I had in afternoon snack!" – praise indeed!! We look forward to seeing you in the Autumn term and, even better, as McAuley pupils in 2018!

Year 6 Transition Day - Monday 26 June 2017

"I can't wait to come to McAuley!" was the overwhelming sentiment of Y6 pupils who visited McAuley on their Y6 Transition Day. Pupils were inspired by a taster lesson, an uplifting liturgy and got to know their new form group and form tutor. The pupils were a credit to themselves, their families and schools with their exemplary politeness and enthusiasm to get involved throughout the day; we can't wait to work with you from September!
