Oliver Byfleet 10G - Recent Taekwondo Success at National Championships

I have been doing Taekwondo for four and a half years. I have been to three international competitions and a number of national competitions. This year was my third time at a National Championship and the first time I had ever been in an A Class. I won my first fight 18-11, second 8-1 and lost the third one 34-6. Overall I gained Silver.

I aim to carry on competing and my next competition is in November. For the past three and a half years I have been a novice, but as I said earlier now compete in the A Class. I also have ambitions to compete internationally and my main goal is to win the National Championships in A Class and get into the GB Team. Read more...

The Holbeck Scholarship

These scholarships are open to pupils from schools and colleges in the Yorkshire and Humber region, who are applying to a UK university (not just York) for entry in September 2017.
The scholarships are worth a one-off payment of £1,250 in Year 1. The scholarships are funded by the Holbeck Charitable Trust, in partnership with the Excellence Hub for Yorkshire and Humber.
They are aimed at talented students who may have faced challenging circumstances (social, personal or educational) and have successfully applied to university perhaps in the face of adversity. The application process is competitive with a limited number of scholarships available.
We are delighted and proud to present our scholars of 2017:
Nicole Hammond who is going to study Medicine at the University of Sheffield
Vicky Longa who is going to the University of Sheffield to study Dentistry.

The Holbeck Scholarship presentation in the Hospitium in the York Museum Gardens on Thursday 31st of August. Glenda Jackson was the distinguished Guest and she made a really thoughtful speech; she spoke with all the recipients and their parents. The venue was beautiful and Thank You to the University Of York for a wonderful occasion.
Our congratulations to our Scholars and we wish them well as they start their new adventures.

Sixth Form Open Evening - October 5th 2017

A Level Results Success

The McAuley Catholic High School and Sixth Form would like to congratulate our Year 13 Class of 2017 who achieved a remarkable set of results today. An increase of 2% in A* grades, an increase of 4% in A*-A grades - both of which are above the national average - and an increase of 7% in A*-B grades all contributed to making these the best results that the school has achieved in a number of years. The percentage of A level A* - E passes has bucked the national trend, increasing to 99.5%.
The Level 3 Value Added score is also 'statistically significantly' above the national average and reflects the outstanding status of the McAuley Sixth Form.
This remarkable set of students can be very proud of the way they have upheld the traditions of McAuley and we are delighted with their academic achievements. It is great to see that all their hard work has paid off in such fine style.
There have been a number of notable achievements in a variety of subject areas reflecting the professional excellence of all our teachers and our Sixth Form team who have contributed so much to the success of the students in their care.
We also acknowledge the support given to the students by their parents and guardians during their time in McAuley.
It is these home/school partnerships that are the strength of the school.
Nothing is achieved without endeavour and our students and staff have worked phenomenally hard over the last two years, dealing admirably with the vast changes in post 16 education, to make these results possible and they reflect the high level of commitment to study that we strongly encourage at McAuley.
Our Sixth Formers are a positive example to us all showing that excellence can be achieved by anyone, no matter where the starting point, by working hard together and believing that nothing is impossible!
These excellent results mean that the vast majority of our university applicants have secured places at their preferred choice, many on competitive courses including medicine and dentistry at Redbrick institutions; while others have successfully secured apprenticeships and employment.
This unique set of students can also be proud of the contribution they have made to our school community, both those who have been at McAuley since year 7, and the many who joined us for Sixth Form from other schools, both within and outside the Doncaster area. They have been a credit to themselves and to McAuley through their role modelling of behaviour, leadership and through their involvement in extra-curricular, fundraising and in-school activities.
All our Sixth Formers take with them our best wishes on their journeys to success and we look forward to hearing many great things from them in the years ahead.
